DADDY'S CAVE ~~ (Soma)tics ~~ Saturday Night

On August 9, Little Berlin's Annex (2340 Coral St) and Garbage World Performance Series are thrilled to present Cassandra Troyan and Rachel Ellison's (JIMMYBROOKS) performance "DADDY'S CAVE", CA Conrad's (Soma)tic poetry, and Cory Kram's dance performance Saturday Night.

The doors open at 7:30PM, with the event beginning at 8PM. Please donate $6-10 for our touring artists. Thank you!

JIMMYBROOKS is a collaborative project between Rachel Ellison and Cassandra Troyan. Through performance, dance, and writing combined with spontaneity and play, they reconstruct the boundaries of female identity, pop culture, voyeurism, and spectatorship to formulate a heterogeneous subjectivity that seeks to create an identity out of the already present detritus of ever-fluctuating trends. Cassandra and Rachel reside in Chicago and met while attending the University of Chicago.

Their performance "DADDY'S CAVE", is a continually developing performance calling upon an American tradition of physical control in relation to ethics of work, beauty, gender, masculinity, and sports. We utilize different gestures that express actions of policing forms, and the ways one breaks bonds in order to be free. An incantation and excision of Daddy, "DADDY’S CAVE" calls upon the visionary work and worlds of Freddie Mercury, Annie Sprinkle, and Malcolm X.

Moving in and out of psychological spaces that protect and harbor masculine behavior, or enable the values that keep safe American “freedoms”. The performance weaves through conjured holograms of the decadent dandy, the earth loving ecosexual whore, and the radical who lives out of strength rather than fear.

Cory Kram is a multidisciplinary, multi-dimensional artist from Southern New Jersey. Her work includes painting, sculpture, video, film, and performance. Through these outlets she channels dreams and unravels unconscious complexities. She has previously exhibited, screened, or performed at galleries and venues including Philadelphia Photo Arts Center; MoMA, NY; Microscope Gallery, Brooklyn, Stern Gallery, Philadelphia; Vox Populi, Philadelphia; Goldilocks Gallery, Philadelphia; and Garbage World 7, Garbage Fest 2 among others. She recently participated in a residency in Borsec, Romania titled InSide Zone, and previously performed Saturday Night at BronxArtSpace's Performance Event Zero.

Cory's “Saturday Night” is a hyper portrayal of the manic energy that can accompany intense periods of loneliness and isolation. The frustration of being alone and the hunger for acceptance or recognition creates an overwhelming urge to transform the body into a new being, one that is able to escape the constraints of reality through physical movements. Through interpretive motions, she channels her younger self, one who spent many weekend nights in solitude.
