Little Berlin is pleased to present Absurd! a group exhibition of artists working in traditional craft vernaculars to create absurdist objects and push against the historical presumptions of functionality, There will be an opening
reception for both shows on Saturday, October 7th from 7pm - 9pm.
Absurd! is a collection of multimedia works from artists working with traditional craft methodologies. Whether focusing on ceramics, woodworking, sewing, metal smithing, and tromp l’oeil painting, the each artist’s practice moves beyond the functional and the domestic tropes of craft. Whether the uneasy examination of domestic space seen in Paul Rouphail’s obsessively precise illusionist paintings or the ludicrous eroticism of Emily Culver’s mixed media sculptures, all of the work in consciously pushes back against the self-seriousness of contemporary craft while maintaining a dedication to precision and care.
